What are flower essences?
Excerpt with permission from Gina-Dianne Harding From Fear to Eternity: 212 Ways to Let Go of Limiting Beliefs and Shift Your Energy into Higher Consciousness Living available in ebook and paperback.
Flowers have special energetic or vibrational qualities. The energy pattern of every flower is unique, and it has its own special characteristics, which perform a specific action. Flower essences alter the subtle emotional, psychological and spiritual energy levels and filter down to the physical body. They were first intuitively developed in the mid 1930s by Dr. Edward Bach a British physician and homeopath.[i
Flower essences each have a very specific vibration, which balances your energy system by addressing often subtle aspects of a challenge. You’ll notice this in the example below. Some flower essences release negative moods and emotions. Others help us to recognize and let go of behaviour patterns that create negative feelings. Some affect the physical body by strengthening various organs or the immune system, or by preventing reactions to stress in the home or work environment. Many flower essences work in the spiritual realm, helping you know you are following the path that is right for you and helping you feel you have a real purpose and meaning to your life.
Essences enhance the connection between body and mind and your spirit. Depending on which essence you choose, your response may range from feeling a sense of contentment and wellbeing, to feeling joyful, having lots of energy or a clear, focused mind. Even during interaction with others, certain flower essences assist you to maintain a calm presence. You may feel safe and secure from fear, and you can be in the present moment.
There are excellent reference books on this subject such as the `Flower Essence Repository`, which lists essences from many reputable sources. If you are interested in pursuing flower essences to enhance the work you are doing as you read this book, I recommend working with an expert to achieve the greatest benefits. An expert will understand that there are many remedies for fear, for example, and assess the subtleties of your specific fears.
There are remedies for emotional blockages and letting go; non-attachment; general fears, specific fears and fears of the unknown. Bach`s safe rescue remedy is useful in any traumatic situation, or to stabilize and calm a person or animal in a stressful situation.
There are some essences with fewer subtleties that will shift your energy into higher vibration. These include:
Inspiration: Iris (flower essence society FES)
Spiritual growth: Scotch broom (FES).
Inner harmony: California poppy, star tulip.
Perception: sage brush, Shasta daisy [ii]
